I like the word "screech":
The way it looks on the page, the way my mouth moves when I say it, and even the fleeting way my eardrums cringe in fear and then relax with relief.
This weekend though, the word has come to life and taken the form of... Friend's sister.
My eardrums have entered into a state of permanent cringing.
She has a laugh that can remove wallpaper, shatter glass, and destroy the nervous system of small animals.
Hmm, must do everything I can to prevent laughter (yes, yes, I'll just be my normal self then).
Although... if I can get her into the back bedroom upstairs, put on my ear defenders, and show her something funny, perhaps that would help with the redecorating.
I can see it now:
"Hey S, let's go upstairs into the back bedroom - I want to show you something funny. I'll just go and get my defenders..."
